Flawed Education System

The American education system is a prevalent issue in today’s society. Although it is frequently spoken about, there have been no effective or substantial measures taken in order to fix it. Schools place a level of pressure and unrealistic standards on students which forces stress and anxiety as well as alters their opinions on school itself. Students begin to prioritize their grade in a subject versus actually learning the material. Also, they begin to dislike or sometimes dread certain aspects of it. This encourages cheating, lack of motivation, and discourages the strive for their passions or their goals. Students struggle to progress in their career paths as quickly as they may be able to if they genuinely enjoyed all of their curriculum and were excited about the information that is presented to them. As students move along their education journeys, it becomes much harder to decide on an occupation when the knowledge and the desire to pursue a subject is absent. Students are not given the freedom to explore their interests enough to fully dedicate their minds to it. Instead, they are somewhat forced to take common core classes that do no necessarily appeal or relate to all students. All individuals have a similar schedule even though students have different interests and minds. Overall, the lack of encouragement and freedom given to students makes it more difficult to decide a career path and slows down their career path in the long run.

  1. I thought your blog was very well written! I really liked the way you reflected on what is happening in the American education system such as students being ultimately forced to prioritize grades over true learning. And then how you went on to discuss that such pressure leads to even worse outcomes like cheating.

  2. The way you included various examples of how the education system is flawed was great! It was helpful to include a handful of issues and flaws it posses. I also like how you brought up how the students' curriculum itself is a major flaw.
